PMD – Pelizaeus-Merzbacher Disease

Jacob Fight PMD

Jacob’s Ladder continues support for PMD and Jacob Trossman

Jacob Trossman, who is affected with Pelizaeus-Merzbacher Disease (PMD), continues to captivate the many people who are fortunate enough to come into his life. His infectious laugh and amazing sense of humor makes those around him do crazy things to elicit a giggle.

At six years old, he continually impresses his teachers with his ability to understand and absorb their lessons. His current challenge is to effectively communicate his thoughts and requests in a way that is understandable to those around him. We are hopeful that a creative communication device will provide him the freedom to express his thoughts in the near future.

The media and website exposure that we have received has allowed us to connect with several families in Canada who have children affected with this disease. We believe that increasing awareness of PMD and uniting families will help strengthen our support base and further our research progress.

Our research is ongoing and we have recently funded a project at the University of Kentucky headed by Dr. Franca Cambi, a neurologist who specializes in PMD. We continue to search for new studies to support that will lead to treatments for PMD.
